Ups and Downs With The Rovers – You Got Me Singing the Blues

I have been a Blackburn Rovers Fan from Being a Toddler In The 1970s When We Were In The Third Division – Dad used to take me to the pre-season friendlies & we stood in the Darwen End with the Away Fans – Dad would always wipe my mucky face from teatime with his hanky that he spat on – that is growing up tough – Dad passed away in 1999 and for about 6 months after he passed away I walked the 5 miles to his Grave & 5 miles back home as I missed him so much – I also went to Mass every day for 6 months to light a Candle for him!

At least Dad was lucky enough to see the Rovers win the Premier League Trophy In 1995 the same year I discovered the Internet & set up as an Internet Consultant – In the days before I was old enough to attend the Rovers I would watch the crowds flocking past the front window as we lived on Bolton Road, Ewood about 150 yards from the Darwen End.

In the early 1980s my Brother-in-Law Sandy, a Kilmarnock Fan from Scotland, took me to home and away matches of the Rovers but he passed away in 1982 leaving my eldest Sister a Widow at an early age.

I remember being at Wembley for the Full Members Cup Final versus Charlton Athletic when we won 1-0 with a goal by Colin Hendry a Scotland International Player. I had bought the Registration Plate A18 RFC (A1 BRFC) & I Took It To A BMW Showroom To See If Anyone Would Be Interested In Buying It & Lo & Behold Colin Hendry Happened To walk In Behind Me & I Asked If He Was Interested But He Already Had A CH Cherished Number! I also had access to the registration plate GOA 1 and I went to Ewood & saw Mike Newell, a Striker, who saw the registration plate for what it was!

I will add more to this blog post so please keep popping back & I will add footy chants that were popular from the 80s onwards – I chose the pen name Ibrahim d’Ewood as 4 generations of my Family lived on Bolton Road, Ewood, Blackburn, Lancashire, UK

The Coat of Arms – fede sendoa is Basque for “Strong Faith” –

Ewood – Due To 4 Generations Of Family Living On Bolton Road, Ewood, Blackburn, Lancashire, England
