This first Tutorial is just a taster about Technology through the ages from the Abacus to the powerful Micro-Processers of today!

The abacus (pluralabaci or abacuses), also called a counting frame, is a calculating tool which has been used since ancient times. It was used in the ancient Near EastEuropeChina, and Russia, centuries before the adoption of the Hindu-Arabic numeral system.[1] The exact origin of the abacus has not yet emerged. It consists of rows of movable beads, or similar objects, strung on a wire. They represent digits. One of the two numbers is set up, and the beads are manipulated to perform an operation such as addition, or even a square or cubic root.

Now to the bits and bytes of ARM Micro-Processers which we will be learn about:

ARM (stylised in lowercase as arm, formerly an acronym for Advanced RISC Machines and originally Acorn RISC Machine) is a family of reduced instruction set computer (RISC) architectures for computer processors, configured for various environments. Arm Ltd. develops the architecture and licenses it to other companies, who design their own products that implement one or more of those architectures, including system on a chip (SoC) and system on module (SoM) designs, that incorporate different components such as memory, interfaces, and radios. It also designs cores that implement these instruction set architectures and licenses these designs to many companies that incorporate those core designs into their own products.

Learn More About The ARM Ltd Company

Arm Ltd. (stylized as arm) is a Britishsemiconductor and software design company based in CambridgeEngland.[8] Its primary business is in the design of ARMprocessors (CPUs), although it also designs other chips; software development tools under the DS-5, RealView and Keil brands; and systems and platformssystem-on-a-chip (SoC) infrastructure and software. As a “holding” company, it also holds shares of other companies. It is considered to be market dominant for processors in mobile phones (smartphones or otherwise), tablet computers and for chips in smart TVs and in total over 160 billion chips have been made for various devices based on designs from Arm (more than from any other company). The company is one of the best-known “Silicon Fen” companies.[9] Since 2016, it has been owned by conglomerate SoftBank Group.

We will be learning how to Program Arm Processers that are on Microcontrollers on boards that cost from about £20 – ARM have developed uVisiion software that you use to program these kind of boards. The MDK (Development Kit) used to program ARM Microcontrollers is very expensive, the Professional Version is over £6,000 – It would be worth our while creating our own Software Suite for such boards and also design and build an ARM Microcontroller Board of our own.

For the Hardware Tutorials, instead of studying ARM Processors we will be studying the Open Source Arduino – It is quite easy to grasp the Hardware & Software of Arduinos!
